01，A number of：许多的…

译文：但是，在20世纪所发表的那些最重要的评论作品集中，相当多的评论是由报刊上的评论文章构成的。

点睛：本句中的published并不是句子的谓语动词，真正的谓语动词是consisted。Published做后置定语。A number of后面只能接可数名词，正如句子中的collections一样，这一点和上一期学过的a great deal of不一样。而且，a number of并不指东西的具体数量，所以一般后面的谓语用复数。真正指数目的短语是the number of。

02，A variety of: 各种，种种

A variety of activities should be organized so that participants can remain active as long as they want and then go on to something else without feeling guilty and without letting the other participants down.

翻译：应当组织安排各种活动，一边让参与者随心随意的保持活跃，并且在他们转而从事其他活动时既不会感到内疚，也不会让其他参与者失望。

点睛：本句的主干非常简单，就是A variety of activities should be organized。So that…can引导目的状语从句。目的状语从句中又分为并列句，前一部分participants can remain，and后面省略了同样的部分，写全了应该是participants can go on to…. as long as是条件状语从句

A variety of既可以跟可数名词也可以接不可数名词。接可数名词时后面的谓语用复数，接不可数名词时，后面的谓语用单数。

03，Account for ：说明，解释

Kitcher is philosopher, and this may account, in part, for the clarity and effectiveness of his argument.(1996阅读真题)

翻译：Kitcher是位哲学家，这也部分解释了为什么他的理论为何明确而又有说服力。

点睛：逗号加and是并列句型，in part只是插入语，如果有碍观瞻，你可以先去掉。

04，Accuse sb. of sth.

The newly described languages were often so strikingly different from the well studied languages of Europe and Southeast Asia that some scholars even accused Boas and Sapir of fabricating their data.(2004翻译)

翻译：这些新近被描述的语言和得到充分研究的欧洲和东南亚地区的语言往往差别显著，以至于有些学者甚至指责Boas和Sapir编造了材料。

点睛：本句中described是前置定语修饰languages。Strikingly为显著地，突出地，作为副词形容different。本句话就是一个主系表句型，be different from为一个词组，意为与…不同。其中so…that引导一个结果状语从句，从句主语some scholars，Boas 和Sapir为受到指责的人。

The paid manager acting for the company was in more direct relation with the men and their demands.

点睛：acting for作为后置定语修饰manager，本句为主系表句型。短语in relation with为-在和…的关系中
